On 21 November, students, professors and staff have participated in the seminar “Dengue in Cape Verde: Prevention and Combat and the Dengue Awareness and Combat Day, contributing to national efforts to eradicate the epidemic.
In the morning, a cleaning and awareness campaign was held at the University and in the neighboring areas of Palmarejo Grande, in collaboration with the Municipal Sanitation Services of City Hall of Praia and the National Institute of Public Health. The main aim was to alert the community to the importance of eliminating breeding sites for the mosquito that transmits the disease.
In the afternoon, the seminar, broadcast online, covered the Dengue epidemic in Cape Verde, the importance of vector control, the diagnosis and treatment of the disease, and demystified mistaken beliefs about Dengue. Experts from INSP and the West African Aedes Surveillance Network (WAASuN) has also participated, including the National Health Director, Dr Ângela Gomes, and the Magnificent Rector of UniPiaget, Prof. Dr Joanita Rodrigues.
