Jean Piaget University of Cabo Verde participated in the International Conference Migrations and Climate in Africa: Emerging Dynamics and Future Challenges, held on March 27 and 28 in Saint-Louis, Senegal. The event is part of the AfriquEurope Project, funded by the European Union's Jean Monnet Program, and is part of a series of thirteen events planned between 2024 and 2027, which will take place mainly in African countries.
Professor Dr. Lara F. Gomez represented UniPiaget with the study entitled Climate Change, Gender and Migration in Cape Verde and their Multifaceted Effects: A Health Perspective. The conference, organized by GERM – Laboratory for Studies and Research on Gender, Environment, Religion and Migration at Gaston Berger University, aimed to create a space for interdisciplinary dialogue scientific, political, and civic on the interactions between climate change and migration in Africa.
During the two days, the event supported the production of interdisciplinary knowledge in the areas of climate, geography, sociology, migration, and gender, analyzing mechanisms that connect climate change, socio-environmental vulnerability, and mobility in West Africa. Existing public policies were also evaluated, and inclusive governance approaches were proposed to anticipate and manage climate-related mobility.
The AfriquEurope Project brings together universities, research centers, and human rights organizations from 34 countries, representing the diversity of Africa and Europe. Its goal is to foster constructive dialogue between the two continents, strengthen ties, and develop evidence-based solutions for policymakers on both sides of the Mediterranean.
