Jean Piaget University of Cape Verde partnered with ECOCV, the National Directorate of the Environment, Domingos Ramos High School, and Edmaktub in organizing a video and photographic exhibition dedicated to the diversity, monitoring, and conservation of whales and dolphins in Cape Verde.
Inaugurated on January 26 at Domingos Ramos High School in the city of Praia, the exhibition will remain open until January 29 and includes activities on environmental education and ocean literacy, aimed primarily at the school community.
During the opening session, biologist Edita Magileviciute presented information about the cetacean species found across the different islands of the archipelago, highlighting their ecological importance, as well as the participatory monitoring work carried out in the country.
According to the Director of Domingos Ramos High School, Celina Mendes, the exhibition is an added value for students’ education, providing hands-on learning closely connected to Cape Verde’s environmental reality. She also emphasized that initiatives of this kind stimulate scientific curiosity, encourage critical thinking, and strengthen young people’s sense of responsibility toward ocean protection.
Throughout the exhibition, students had the opportunity to explore images and videos captured on various islands of the archipelago, accompanied by explanations from the biologist, which generated great interest and enthusiasm among participants.
This initiative reinforces UniPiaget of Cape Verde’s commitment to environmental education, scientific outreach, and the protection of marine biodiversity.
